Burning

Grassroots

Inside the
Dean Machine

"Blunt, honest, hard-hitting... a great read about a campaign that transformed American politics." Steve Grossman, chairman, Dean campaign and former chairman, Democratic National Committee.
"A most engaging, candid, and well-written study of the hell-for-leather primary campaign of Dr. Howard Dean." Howard Frank Mosher, author of "Stranger in the Kingdom" and "Waiting for Teddy Williams".

Other Writing Projects

Before writing Burning at the Grassroots: Inside the Dean Machine, I had written many magazine articles. What you find in this section is a few of them.

  • THE CANINE GENOME PROJECT
    By Dana Dunnan

First is an article on cutting edge research about the Canine Genome Project. I wrote that article to try and make very complex research understandable and relevant to everyday life, particularly for people with dogs.

  • THE BELLMAN HELPS OUT
    By Dana Dunnan

Another article that moves from the scientific toward the very unscientific- the paranormal. In that article, I wrote about how a personal experience led me to investigate how legends and ghost stories start and are propagated.

  • IRENE SOO'S FINAL JOURNEY
    By Dana Dunnan

This is an article on how my wife and I came to own a railroad caboose, which is where I do much of my writing in warmer weather. This article mixes railroad history, engineering, and personal experience.

As this sampling indicates, I have broad interests. Currently, I am developing the outlines for my next book, which I hope can have an impact on the discussion leading up to the 2008 election. With the Dean book, I was looking back, at what may have been a missed opportunity for something other than politics as usual in America. I think that there may be new opportunities for America to break out of its current political malaise, which is what inspires me to another book.
